ABSENCE AND TARDINESS POLICIES
Private Lessons
Student Absences - Bard Preparatory Division faculty members are not required to make up lessons missed due to an absence by the student. Teachers may choose to make up 1 missed lesson per semester if they have time in their schedule to do so. Make up lesson may occur remotely, if the teacher is not available for in-person make up lesson.
Please discuss this possibility directly with the teacher.
Please limit requests to 1 per semester and for illnesses only.
Teacher Absences - If a Preparatory Division teacher is absent from a lesson, that lesson will be covered or made up. Whenever possible a substitute teacher* will be provided to fill in at the regular lesson time. If a substitute teacher cannot be provided for the date of the absence, the lesson will be made up by either the regular teacher or a substitute teacher at a later date, mutually agreed upon by the student and the teacher.
*Substitute teachers are professionals with qualifications comparable to Bard Preparatory Division Faculty members
Tardiness - Please arrive on time to private lessons. Lessons in the Bard Preparatory Division are very tightly scheduled and consequently, any lesson time missed cannot be made up.
Classes
Student or Teacher Absences - If a class teacher is absent, the class will be held as scheduled with a substitute teacher. Classes missed due to student absence will not be made up. If your child will miss a class, please notify the teacher and directors before the absence if possible, and class assignments will be provided.
Tardiness - A student arriving late to class disrupts the flow of the class and diminishes the learning experience for everyone. Please make every attempt to arrive on time to all classes.
SUPERVISION OF MINORS
During the interim between classes and lessons, students are the sole responsibility of their parent(s) or caregiver. Bard Preparatory Division Staff, Faculty, and Directors are not responsible for monitoring students or siblings between official Bard Prep classes, lessons, or rehearsals. If students need assistance between classes please make arrangements for a parent or caregiver to be present at the appropriate time.
STUDENT ILLNESS
To avoid the spread of illness and infection, we ask that students avoid coming to Preparatory Division classes, lessons, or events with the following symptoms:
Fever, diarrhea, or vomiting in the previous 24-hour period
Extreme coughing
Impetigo
Conjunctivitis (pink eye)
Chicken pox - until all lesions have dried and crusted
Strep Throat - until at least 24 hours of treatment
Infection with head lice, scabies, or pinworms -
until at least 24 hours of treatment
Skin rashes
Measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis, hib, and tuberculosis
If students come to Bard Preparatory Division classes, lessons, or events with signs of the above illnesses or other potentially contagious conditions, we reserve the right to refuse their participation for that day.
PHOTO RELEASE
By enrolling in the Bard Preparatory Division, the student or parent/guardian (for students under 18) authorizes the making and use of any photos, videos or sound recordings during his/her participation in classes, lessons, or performances for any purpose without compensation to the student or parent/guardian.
