The Center for Civic Engagement is seeking two Bard students/recent graduates to work this summer as U.S. Civic Engagement Fellows. The positions are funded through the Bard College/State Department Institute entitled: Civic Engagement in the 21st Century: Leadership and the Challenge of the Engaged Citizen. Fellows will support a group of 20 undergraduate student leaders from a multi-national group from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia, and Turkey to participate in the 35-day study tour (June 22nd - July 20th). The goal of the Institute is to provide participants with the tools and understanding to allow them to become engaged citizens in their own communities.

The Institute will include an academic residency at Bard’s Annandale campus, as well as study tours in NYC, Baltimore, MD and Washington, DC, as well as site visits throughout the Hudson Valley and home stays with American families.

Responsibilities:
• Assist in the planning and implementation of the 35-day study tour
• Accompany international student scholars throughout the 35-day study tour
• Serve as a Peer Counselor within the on-campus residency portion of the program
• Provide administrative and logistical support to the Academic and Administrative Directors (before, during and after the study tour)
• Available to drive participants locally in CCE vans as a Bard Driver (valid U.S. drivers license is mandatory)
• Act as goodwill ambassadors to help acclimate international visitors to academic and cultural life in America – and to Bard specifically
• Interact effectively with Bard faculty, staff, and administrators, civic engagement practitioners, and other guest lecturers to further the goals of the Institute
• Administer pre- and post-tour questionnaires, surveys, and evaluations as well as drafting weekly reports
• Participate in post-tour activities such as follow-up documentation and alumni online networking

Qualifications:
Seeking an interactive and engaging, self-starter that is ambitious, pays attention to detail and is a leader. This position is great for a creative thinker.

Preference will be given to students with experience in event coordination, administrative support, or as peer counselors.

A valid US driver’s license, driving experience, and defensive driving certification are mandatory prior to the program start date. Likewise, strong interpersonal and intercultural skills are a must. Interest in Eurasian Studies, some knowledge of Russian, and/or experience leading civic engagement activities a plus but not required.

Students must be willing to assist with set-up and breakdown of tables, chairs, and technical and mechanical equipment for various events. AV experience a plus.

Familiarity with PowerPoint, social media and marketing a plus.
